MAKE IT MODERN

Posted on April 12th, 2016 by Toms Price Home.

With its clean, geometric lines, the current Toms-Price selection of modern furniture is being hailed for its beauty and craftsmanship. If you’ve been thinking about your home, and how to make it modern – whether in your living room, family room, bedroom or all throughout your home – now is the perfect time to do it!

Today’s Buzz Word: Unclutter

“People like the uncluttered modern look with it’s very simple lines,” said Paula Baldoni, Design Consultant at Toms-Price in Old Orchard Center. Paula recently put together a stunning family room in an older house for a client living in Lake Balmoral, near Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood. The room features a contemporary look with the Hancock & Moore Sorenson sofa with two creamy-toned Elkins chairs by Vanguard. She also customized the Charleston Forge Newhart Square cocktail table size and finished the top in a darker wood stain. Interesting accent tables and a shag rug completed the room to make it modern and very livable.

New modern designs from Stickley

Toms-Price designers love the sleek, streamlined look of modern furniture. They are like pieces of art and can make a statement all their own.

Two favorite modern pieces from Stickley are the Flat Iron Chair (shown above) with its open exposed wood arms. The seat and back almost look like they’re floating in between each side. Another top pick to make it modern is Stickley’s Bodega Bay sectional (below). Rugs, lamps, accessories and paint color all need to coordinate together to create a total modern look. Your Toms-Price designer can help you with all of it.

Susan Palinski, Design Consultant at Toms-Price in Wheaton, has her modern favorites too. One of them is Stickley’s High Line Curved Gathering Island. (Shown in our top photo.) This ingenious piece sits behind a sofa like a typical sofa table, but it’s bar height, allowing for chairs or stools underneath. It’s great in a small apartment in place of a dining table or in a living room or family room for casual entertaining. Susan also loves Saloom furniture “for it’s modern look and great quality and pricing.”  She recommends the Saloom glass-top, K-base table (shown below).

Mid-Century Modern

Toms-Price gives a nod to mid-century modern pieces like this very cool Suri Sofa by Sherrill Precedent. The purple velvet Langley Chair, also by Sherrill Precedent, is shown with the Depth Perception end table by Caracole.

The Right Mix to Make it Modern

Over the years, Toms-Price has been evolving out of traditional looks and into a transitional or modern mix. This tracks with trending consumer demand and an overall tendency in the design world to gravitate traditional to modern forms and vice versa. Don’t forget about color when you make it modern. It can be of prime importance when selecting the right fabric and leather for modern furniture. The talented designers at Toms-Price can help you select the hues which will give your decor a gorgeous new modern look.

Toms-Price has dozens of furniture lines offering modern styles. Some of these include Century, Baker, Harden, Vanguard, Hooker, Nichols & Stone, Stickley, Hekman, FFDM, Bernhardt, Kindel, Saloom and Marge Carson. You’re sure to find the right pieces to create the modern home of your dreams. Visit or call a Toms-Price store today. One of the experienced designers will be happy to help you!
