Designer Alan Price Triptych

Furniture Handcrafted with Love

Designer Alan Price has a wealth of interesting stories. What others might consider an inconsequential moment in life may hold the catalyst of creative inspiration for Alan. If you love design, are intrigued by creativity and would like to understand his unique creative process, come hear this deeply authentic furniture designer impart his wisdom. You will be entertained, educated and inspired. Alan has something to tell us about what makes a home both eye-pleasing and comfortable. He says: “A piece of furniture should make you feel good, as if you’re relaxed and excited at the same time.”

His three talks at Toms-Price will be accompanied by various treasures that have inspired him. These will be conveyed to Toms-Price aboard his vintage Air Stream trailer from his home in North Carolina.

Finding Inspiration in Aspirational Leather

Inspiration via designer Alan Price, who is the lead designer for Hancock & Moore, comes by way of people, places, history, elegance and things we may not even notice in our everyday lives. Perhaps it’s the shoes of an Italian business man, glimpsed on a cobblestone street, that prompt a cascade of inventive sketches. These, in turn, may provide him with the necessary ideas to create imaginative new furniture for Hancock & Moore, one of the top American-made leather furniture companies operating today.

Alan’s showroom space at the recent High Point Furniture Market was filled with his signature collection of old saddles, maps, shoes, cast-offs, posters, historic tools and what-have-you. He spent his early years trailing his father around furniture factories, later becoming president of his father’s company, William Alan. His studies included furniture design and marketing at High Point University in North Carolina. Alan has done design work for many well-known companies including Hilton, Ralph Lauren Home and Columbia Pictures.
