HELP IMMIGRANT WOMEN AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Posted on July 19th, 2016 by Toms Price Home.

Lee furniture is known for its beauty and for the company’s commitment to a better world. Toms-Price stores are happy to be participating in Lee Loves Giving Back. A special fundraiser for Re:new Project is taking place this July in Wheaton, Old Orchard and Lincolnshire. Now through July 31, when you purchase eco-friendly Lee furniture, Toms-Price will donate 5% of the purchase price to Re:new, a Glen Ellyn-based non-profit organization. Re:new provides training, employment and community for refugee women living in the U.S. We hope you will join Toms-Price as we help immigrant women and the environment.

Re:new, making a difference in womens’ lives

The immigrant women working at Re:new have fled their country of origin for a variety of reasons. These include war, famine, genocide and other atrocities. They come to this country seeking peace and safety. As Re:new artisans, they make an array of unique, attractive purses, totes and other bags, handcrafted with recycled textiles. The bags can be purchased in the Glen Ellyn shop and on online.
Each year Toms-Price donates hundreds of discontinued fabric samples to Re:new so they may be recycled into chic totes and bags of all kinds. Just click the photos to purchase these online and see many more.

Fatma, one immigrant’s story

Fatima Re:new Artisan
Fatma, is just one of the immigrant women who serve as artisans at Re:new. Fleeing the Somalian war zone, she ended up in a crowded Yemeni refugee camp before she and her two children were able to be resettled in the U.S. Working with Re:new since its founding, Fatma is incredibly hard-working, a talented seamstress and a caretaker of those around her. She was recently promoted to Re:new studio manager.
